Defensive Driving Course

The DSI Defensive Driving Course (TLIC1051) provides drivers with knowledge and skills to safely drive a vehicle in most common urban driving environments (sealed roads). The course provides theory and practical demonstrations to reinforce the importance of the most common road safety issues. All training is delivered at the Mt Cotton Driver Training Centre, Brisbane.

Training outcomes

At the completion of the course it is expected that all drivers will demonstrate;
  • How to apply defensive driving techniques

  • Understanding the risks associated with Alcohol, Drugs & Fatigue

Course duration

One day (9am to 4pm)

Course requirements

To participate in this course we require you to bring with you
  • you drivers licence (minimum ‘P’ class licence)
  • your own registered and roadworthy vehicle
  • a pen
  • food and water for the day
  • enclosed shoes
  • your student Unique Student Identification number (

Training delivery

This training will be delivered face to face at Mt Cotton Driver Training Centre by DSI.

Course assessment

The course is assessed using a variety of methods including written and practical assessments. At the completion of this course you will receive the accredited unit of competency TLIC1051 – Operate Commercial Vehicle.
